Private drum lessons, at your doorstep.
Rhythm is at the heart of all music. Our drum lessons take place in your home, so students learn on the kit they practise on every day, with lessons built around their age, level and favourite styles.
Energy, focus and coordination. Drumming is a brilliant way for children to build concentration and confidence — and for adults to unwind while learning something new.
Rhythm, groove and coordination.
Our drum lessons combine solid technique with the grooves and songs students love, so they are playing real music from the very first weeks.
Rhythm & timing
Beats, tempo and rhythmic patterns — the foundation of great drumming.
Stick technique
Correct grip, rebound and efficient movement around the drum kit.
Grooves & beats
Essential grooves used in rock, pop, jazz, funk and other styles.
Fills & transitions
Exciting fills and smooth transitions between the sections of a song.
Coordination
Hand and foot independence for playing more complex rhythms with ease.
Reading & performance
Reading rhythm notation, playing along to songs and performing with confidence.
Taught by a professional percussionist.
Our drum lessons are led by Ogabek Otajonov, a conservatoire-trained percussionist and former orchestral musician with the State Symphony Orchestra of Uzbekistan.
Every drum student is also part of the wider MJ Strings community, led by founder Jelena Aleksijadis Bralović — with concerts and performance opportunities throughout the year.
Ogabek Otajonov
Percussionist

Jelena Aleksijadis Bralović
Founder · Violinist

More than lessons. A community. A stage. A love for music.
From first beats to graded exams.
Drum lessons can follow recognised graded syllabuses such as Trinity Rock & Pop, so students can work towards qualifications — or simply learn to play the songs they love.
Exams are always optional. Lesson length is matched to age and level: 30 minutes for young beginners, 45 minutes at intermediate level and 60 minutes for advanced drummers.
Beginner
First beats, basic grooves and reading simple rhythms in fun 30-minute lessons.
Intermediate
Fills, independence and wider styles, usually one or two 45-minute lessons a week.
Advanced
Advanced grooves, odd time signatures and exam preparation in 60-minute lessons.
